Many people don’t think of Arbor Day as anything more than one of those obscure holidays on the calendar. For Reneé Culler, though, it’s one of the days she looks forward to most of all. That’s the day she often returns to Rosewood Elementary School to help the students plant a new tree. Reneé was a teacher there for 28 years and visits her former school whenever she gets a chance to share her passion for the environment with the children.
A Passion for the Outdoors
 Reneé was born and raised in rural Mississippi and has always been inspired by the simple pleasures of nature. When she was 11, her family moved to South Carolina. Admittedly, young Reneé wasn’t happy about the move at first, but her perspective quickly changed when she saw all the natural beauty of the Palmetto State. Today, she enjoys nothing more than spending time outdoors, whether it’s a walk in the woods with her dog, Buddy, a day of bird watching or a trip to her Lake Murray cottage with her husband, Joe.
As a teacher, Reneé found just as much inspiration in her students as they did in her. In addition to the core subjects of reading, writing and arithmetic, she always found a way to infuse her appreciation for nature. From teaching the children about recycling on
Earth Day to planting a new tree every Arbor Day, she was able to leave a lasting impression. To this day, when Reneé runs into her former students, they always remember her unique, down-to-earth approach.

 When Reneé retired from her teaching career, she wanted to continue inspiring others with an educational role. With her love for the land and strong connections to the Columbia community, real estate proved to be a natural fit.
